Caring Beyond the Uniform: Plymate’s Ongoing Commitment to Health and Awareness

As Breast Cancer Awareness Month comes to a close, we’re reflecting on what this cause means to our Plymate family and how we continue to take care of one another, both inside and outside the workplace.

For us, care is at the heart of everything we do. It’s how we serve our customers, how we support our team, and how we show up for our community. During the months October, that care takes on an even more personal meaning.

A Personal Connection That Inspires Awareness

Breast cancer has touched the Plymate family for generations. For Sarah Plymate, fourth-generation owner and leader of our Customer Relations team, the fight against breast cancer is deeply personal.

“My experience with breast cancer started long before I was diagnosed,” Sarah shared. “Knowing that three generations of Plymate women before me battled breast cancer made me acutely aware of the importance of early detection.”

Her awareness led to early testing and ultimately, early treatment. Sarah underwent a bilateral mastectomy, followed by chemotherapy and radiation. Today, she continues to prioritize her health while helping lead a company that values prevention and wellness for all.

Caring for Our Coworkers and Communities

That spirit of care extends far beyond our leadership. Each October, Plymate hosts the Janet Plymate Memorial Mammography Program, an initiative that provides free mammograms to all employees and their spouses. In partnership with the Women’s Health Center in Shelbyville, this program helps ensure early detection is accessible to every member of our Plymate family.

We also find creative ways to raise awareness and give back. In years past, we’ve held “Pay to Wear Jeans Week” fundraisers benefiting the Susan G. Komen Foundation. This year, our team proudly wore pink T-shirts featuring both the Plymate and Komen logos, raising funds and showing solidarity with those affected by breast cancer.

Wellness Built into Who We Are

Supporting wellness isn’t limited to one month. Through updates to our company-sponsored medical plan, we’ve strengthened prevention and early detection benefits, continuing our commitment to long-term employee health.

Because at Plymate, caring for our people means caring for their whole wellbeing.

Looking Ahead

We’re always reminded that awareness is just the beginning of support. It’s about encouraging regular screenings, supporting research, and standing by those in the fight.

To every Plymate coworker who participated this year, by wearing pink, scheduling a screening, or sharing a story, thank you. Your actions make a difference and help us carry forward a legacy of care that has defined our family for generations.
